NICKI ALLAN has an impressive career portfolio that combines teaching, song writing, session work and performing which has taken her all over the world as a professional jazz vocalist and pianist. Credits include Glastonbury, the 02 Academy, A recording deal with 33Jazz records, BV Session contracts for Cunard, P&O, Sony and countless live performances at UK jazz festivals and prestigious venues. Also, winner of the coveted title of jazz Yorkshire vocalist of the year in 2011 for her contribution to women in Jazz Music.Nicki’s influences span pianists and vocalists alike, from the subtle and beautiful dulcet tones of Shirley Horn, Lizz Wright, Ella Fitzgerald and Joni Mitchell to the vibrant, rhythmic latin, swing and Contemporary piano sounds influenced and inspired by Monk, Oscar Peterson and Herbie Hancock. Underpinned by her stylish bluesy phrasing and love of vocal improvisation, which is her trademark. Be prepared for a healthy mixture of your favourite timeless Christmas classics from the stylish Diana Krall and Bill Evans Swing tunes to Celtic inspired Gaelic song and memorable new original tunes that will have you singing them all December, with arrangements from the esteemed writers Ronnie Bottomley, Derrick Harris, Rod Mason and Paul Chamberlain.
Delivered by the Northern Jazz elite team of finest musicians that include renowned Huddersfield Tenor Sax giant, Rod Mason, Trombone Master Kevin Holbrough, Double Bass aficionado Adrian Knowles (Sounds of ’59, Colours of light) and multi acclaimed Drummer John Settle (Vibeology/NYBB, Carioca soul). This band line up will definitely be delivering Christmas with a capitol C along with some quintet two-horn jazz classics.
