SUMMARY:TNL: Duncan McFarlane & Anne Brivonese
DESCRIPTION:TUESDAY NIGHT LIVE Doors at 7pm Music from 7.15pm \nDuncan McFarlane & Anne Brivonese \nThis duo offers an entertaining blend of Progressive\, Contemporary\, Self-Penned and Traditional Folk Song\, played on guitar and fiddle and sung with style\, panache and lashings of good humour! For almost twenty years now they have graced many a Festival Main Stage from Shrewsbury to Sidmouth\, from Otley to Ely\, from Spain’s Costa del Folk\, to Denmark! \nDuncan has an obvious feel for the tradition and a deep-rooted belief that it has a place in the current folk scene\, aspects which he puts across with lively showmanship. His own songs show a canny grasp of\, and response to\, the tradition\, while his intrinsic seriousness of intent and approach is often laced with a healthy irreverence that happens to be hugely entertaining! To the already full sound of Duncan’s own tremendous guitar playing\, Anne Brivonese contributes excellent\, sympathetic yet punchy fiddle; Supremely exciting playing without needing to act the show-off\, her violin rolls out a carpet of sound over which the action ceaselessly capers. Standing serene at the centre of proceedings\, adding elegant and exciting fiddle\, Anne also gets a chance to show off her voice and a great voice it is too\, contributing lovely supporting harmony vocals’ – The Living Tradition \nDoors at 7.00pm \nMusic 7.15pm – 9.15pm approx. \nTickets £7/£6 available from HEART reception and online via button below

SUMMARY:HPPH - A Bunch of Amateurs
DESCRIPTION:Members of a quintessentially British working-class amateur filmmaking club\, ‘Bradford Movie Makers’ grow old together amid flickering memories and challenging final years. Clinging to their dreams\, and to each other\, fuelled by endless cups of tea\, this gently comedic\, profoundly moving portrait of shared artistic folly speaks to the escapist dreamer in us all and to the enduring power of face-to-face time together\, in an increasingly lonely\, digital age. \n  \nA celebratory story of cinema following aging Bradford movie fanatics that is as warm as it is eccentric\, and a wonderful balm to the uncertainties of our time. \n  \nWinner of the Audience Award at DocFest 2022. \nRunning time: 95 mins\, Cert. 12A \n  \nThis screening will be proceeded by a brand new short: \nProjectionism (2022\, Sarah Wood\,12mins) \nFirst we invented the moving-image camera. Then we used the new camera to record the world around us. But it was only when the moving image was finally seen on screen by its very first audience that cinema truly began. Air\, speed\, the world at 24fps: the modern world was promisingly\, thrillingly\, on the move. Or that’s what we thought. \n  \nTickets £5-£8.80 available here.

DESCRIPTION:Doors at 7.00pm  Music from 7.15pm \nSaturday Night Live – THE DUNCAN McFARLANE BAND \n‘Classic folk-rock sound …A real master class in just how to do the folk-rock thing right!’ – ‘R n R’ Folk Magazine \nThe Duncan McFarlane Band have gone from strength to strength since forming in 2000\, ostensibly for a one-off pub gig as part of Otley Festival. Their heady blend of traditional folk\, with driving rhythm and vibrant energy\, has gone down a storm with festival audiences across the UK – don’t miss ‘em! \n‘Classic folk-rock sound of punchy bass lines and solid\, driving rhythms abound. There’s also a quality of delivery\, vocal authority\, and some stunning lead riffs\, plus neat accordion and fiddle interplay. A real master class in just how to do the folk-rock thing right!’ – ‘R n R’ Folk Magazine \n‘Absolutely great; The Duncan McFarlane Band is chock full of great stuff\, really powerful playing and singing. He writes some great material that guy and I love their lively versions of traditional folk songs’ – Mike Harding \nThis is Folk-Rock\, full-throated and unapologetic. The one time I heard Duncan and band live at a festival\, they had the crowd roaring late into the night – ‘R n R’ Folk Magazine \nThis event will take place in the Shire Oak Hall. \nDoors 7.00pm \nMusic from 7.15pm – 9.15pm approx. \nLast orders 8.45pm. SUMMARY:Jazz at HEART - Harry Christelis & Pedro Velasco
DESCRIPTION:Harry Christelis and Pedro Velasco form a guitar duo that explores and challenges the boundaries of improvised music. Theirs is a melting pot of jazz and folk harmony\, immersive sonic textures\, and calm\, introspective moments that are interjected with wild intensity. In a world that rushes to excite and distract\, their music focuses on taking time to develop and create space. This often-understated approach puts just as much emphasis on the notes that are not played\, as the ones that are. \nThe partnership was born in 2016\, when the two London-based guitarists came together for a concert and discovered a like-minded approach to music. Their musical connection has developed with each meeting since. They share a respect of jazz traditions but also a love of expanding these to incorporate elements from folk and electronic music\, as well as ambient styles and free improvisation. Together\, they’ve built a unique\, intimate setup and found a way of conversing that’s equally unassuming and thought-provoking. \nThey recorded their first album\, ‘Scribbling’\, in December 2020. The result is a truly distinct album that challenges the ideas of what a guitar duo should sound like. Some tracks might transport you to a sound world that feels like it belongs in outer space\, others as if you’re immersed in the depths of the ocean. It is\, however\, a beautifully balanced piece of work that keeps its feet firmly rooted in traditions of the instruments and the music they are playing. \n‘Scribbling’ (Ubuntu Music) is available worldwide on Vinyl/CD/Digital now. \nHEART Centre\, Bennett Road LS6 3HN \nDoors: 7pm   Music 7:15-9:15pm \nTickets £12/6 available from HEART reception or via the button below:

SUMMARY:TNL: The Silver Reserve and Astraluna
DESCRIPTION:“Matthew Sturgess\, who performs as ‘The Silver Reserve’\, plays delicate\, sparse music on a classical guitar\, crafting intricate melodies around thoughtful and evocative lyrics. At times creating dense\, layered atmospherics\, this is music that doesn’t rush and takes its sweet\, sad time to unfurl and sneak under the skin.” \n“Beautiful\, fragmentary songs which slowly dismantle you.” – Seamus Fogarty (Domino Records/Fence Collective)\n“Blending emotive\, affecting lyrics and spacious delicately crafted guitar work\, these beguiling songs hold a depth of hidden treasures.” – Marc Walton (Seven Arts)\n“Quietly spellbinding.” – Andy Brown (Soundlab)\n“The mark of a great artist is not being able to describe anyone that they sound like. He is truly one of a kind. We were just as happy to get to hear his Earthy\, introspective set as our audience was. His musicianship\, voice\, and pedal-use was truly remarkable.” – Della Mae (Rounder Records) \nInstagram\nFacebook \n“Astraluna is the stage name of Jennifer Pugh\, a multi-instrumentalist performer\, songwriter and producer. She has performed in bands since her teenage years and toured with Corinne Bailey Rae as guitarist and backing vocalist from 2009-2011. Astraluna’s self-released debut album The Pass Of Storms was released in 2016\, EP In The Half Light was released 2021 and her second album The Seven Sisters is due for release summer 2023. Having completed a Masters in Composition and Production at Leeds Conservatoire in October 2020\, she loves to create music using a mixture of live and electronic instruments and layers of vocal harmonies. Astraluna is a founding member of Sisterhood Music Collective and a social media ambassador for The F-List.” \n“Ethereal\, delicately delivered folk with a romantic focus on the immensity of nature…Heavy with lush harmonies\, plinking gauzy strings: this cultivates an atmosphere all of it’s own. If you haven’t\, do!” (Jack Donnison – Jumbo Records\, Leeds) \n“We were completely blown away by her utterly beautiful voice here in the studio” (Jericho Keys\, BBC Introducing York & North Yorkshire) \nAstraluna’s impassioned vocals set the melody crackles and sparks with energy all the way through…” (Richard Dowling\, Fresh on the Net) \n“The layered celestial vocals atop a chiming ukulele sound\, both sweetly wrapped in resonant reverb\, create a haunting\, atmospheric and airy chamber to house Astraluna’s delicate songwriting gift.” (Uke Magazine) \nDoors at 7.00pm \nMusic 7.30pm – 9.30pm approx. \nTickets £7/£6 available from HEART reception and online via button below
