SUMMARY:TNL: Tir
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday Night Live: TIR \nDoors 7pm Music 7.15pm \nTìr was born out of improvisational jams in the breaks of a recording session\, but quickly evolved into a project with its own identity\, rooted in original compositions and a shared musical language. \nThe trio draws inspiration from a broad palette: the spacious Americana lyricism of Bill Frisell to the meditative textures of Nordic jazz pioneers Tord Gustavsen Trio\, Eple Trio\, and e.s.t.\, and the gentle experimentalism of modern folk and ambient traditions. Their music explores themes of home\, longing\, stillness\, and the quiet power of nature—offering listeners a space to reflect\, drift\, and settle. \nBased in Leeds\, Joe Wilkes (bass)\, Felix Bertulis-Webb (piano)\, and Eddie Bowes (drums/guitar) are long-time friends and collaborators whose musical chemistry is grounded in trust\, conversation\, and play. Melodically driven and emotionally open\, Tìr explores improvisation and musical intention\, where every note feels like part of a long\, familiar walk home. \nAdvance tickets £8/£7 concessions available from HEART reception and online \nOn the Night £10

SUMMARY:Retrospectives: Three Days In The Condor
DESCRIPTION:When quiet CIA researcher Joe Turner (Robert Redford) steps out for lunch\, he returns to discover his entire team murdered. Suddenly on the run\, Turner has only his wits—and a stranger’s reluctant help—to stay alive. Hunted by assassins and betrayed by the very agency he works for\, he must unravel a conspiracy buried deep within the U.S. intelligence network. Every move could be his last. \nThree Days of the Condor is a taut\, paranoid thriller where trust is a luxury\, survival is the only mission\, and the truth might be deadlier than the lies. \nPart of our Retrospectives series\, in which we seek to honour the lives and legacies of the cinematic greats. This time we put our focus on Robert Redford\, who’s contributions to cinema as the great leading man remain an enduring legacy. Founder of Sundance Film Festival\, academy award winning director with “Ordinary People”\, and star of many classic films – Robert Redford was truly one of the giants of Hollywood\, and he will be greatly missed. \n

SUMMARY:Telling Stories
DESCRIPTION:  \nTo celebrate the migrant communities that help shape the culture of our great city\, we have teamed up with some great organisations in Leeds to bring you an evening of dance\, poetry\, film and music\, reflecting the lived experience of migrant communities in Leeds from past to present. \n  \nDance and Spoken Word: Speak Woman Speak presents a bespoke spoken word piece made specially for this event. The piece delves into themes of epigenetic inheritance\, poverty\, responsibility and hope for the future. Ozzy Moysey from Ancient Infinity Orchestra on the double bass collaborates with Leah Francis performer\, using sound to accompany the piece which is inspired by Caribbean Artist Count Ossie. ‘The Lives we Carry’ explores epigenetic inheritances. Passionate and sad it showcases the Northern\, Black\, Female Voice\, depicting the Universal Black\, Female\, Migrant experience. Being a ‘Leeds Lass\,’ I yearn for my mother’s\, grandmothers’\, ‘Aunties’ and ‘Sista’s voices to be heard. They’re just as poignant and powerful as those in the South. TLWC shows us Womanhood\, migration trauma and the effects; the dreams\, the passions of these women. We connect with them\, to ourselves and to our family \n  \nFilm: The Little London social cohesion documentary video produced by the Leeds African Community Charity Trust\, funded by the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) is about people from various racial backgrounds talking about their lived experiences growing up in the area; how things have changed\, especially societal values such as respect\, tolerance\, caring\, and how life can be made better. \n  \nPoetry: Heartlines Creative Writing Group. Group members run occasional informal workshops for each other\, publish anthologies\, participate in local literature festivals and run a monthly open Mic called Soundbites which is sometimes on Zoom and sometimes at HEART in Headingley. \n  \nThe day will be interspersed with music from a DJ\, plus a chance for Q+A and networking after the film. \n  \nThe event is free\, but donations are encouraged. Please register here \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Films at HEART: No Bears
DESCRIPTION:Films at HEART: NO BEARS \nDoors 7pm Film 7.15pm \nDir Jafar Panahi//1 hr 46 mins//Subtitles// Certificate 12A//2022 \nOne of the world’s great cinematic artists\, Jafar Panahi has been carefully crafting self-reflexive works about artistic\, personal\, and political freedom for the past three decades\, despite his oppression at the hands of the Iranian government. Now\, as the international film community vehemently denounces his summer 2022 arrest and continued imprisonment for his vocal support of a fellow artist’s independence. \nIn NO BEARS\, as in many of his recent titles\, Panahi plays a fictionalized version of himself\, in this case relocated to a rural border town to remotely direct a new film in nearby Turkey – the story of which comes to sharply mirror disturbing events that begin to occur around him. As he struggles to complete his film\, Panahi finds himself thrust in the middle of a local scandal\, confronting the opposing pulls of tradition and progress\, city and country\, belief and evidence\, and the universal desire to reject oppression. \nWatch No Bears trailer \nReviews: \nROTTEN TOMATOES 99%: ‘No Bears is a masterpiece through which he explores the repression and entrapment of people and a society in all its forms.’ \nROGER EBERT 4 out of 4 stars.  ‘No Bears builds to a low-key devastating finale that serves as a rejoinder to contemporary fairy dust about how movies are magic.’ \nTickets £6.50/£5.50 available from HEART reception and online
