SUMMARY:Fortified Spirits
DESCRIPTION:Fortified Spirits\nDoors Open at 7:15PM\nFrom 7:30PM to 8:45PM \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA heartfelt\, reflective\, equal parts funny and touching one-act play about love and loss. \nIt’s moving day for Alex and her partner\, Jules\, isn’t lifting a finger to help! Instead\, he just stands around idly providing commentary. Normally Alex would be furious\, but Jules has a very good excuse\, he’s been dead for months. Alex has come to enjoy her time being haunted but Jules is beginning to get itchy feet. \nThrough chance encounters with strangers and reconnections with old friends\, can Alex learn to live in a world without Jules\, and does she want to? \n\nInitially previewed with Leeds Arts Centre on 1st March 24\, this is the first public production of Fortified Spirits by Treadlight Theatre.\n“A truly wonderful piece of theatre – a deeply moving and beautiful insight into grief and humanity.” \n“…had me in stitches and on the verge of tears!” \n“For a play that’s very sad\, it also makes me feel like maybe there is some hope in this crazy thing called life.” \n“While the early goings are more comedic\, by the end it becomes truly moving and poignant: you could hear the tears rolling down every audience member’s cheeks.” \nPhotography by True North Studio\nPresented by Treadlight Theatre \nTickets £9 (£1 donated to Leeds Mind) available online \n\n\n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:SOUNDBITES – Monthly Poetry Open Mic Event\n\n\nOpen mic listing from 6.30pm Event begins with guest poet at 7.00pm \n\n\n\n\nLive in the Assembly Bar + Kitchen! \nReadings by a different local published poet each month were delighted to welcome performance poet and author\, AMANDA CRUNDALL. \nAmanda began to write again in January 2022 after her friends urged her to write down how she was feeling as a therapeutic outlet; so she did. She has rediscovered her creative self\, amongst being a busy mummy and working life. Amanda works as a full time heart failure nurse specialist and is a single mother to two amazing children. Surprising many of her friends how she finds the time amongst such a busy life remains her best kept secret.  \nHer poetry was featured in The Scroll Magazine during October 2022\, and in 2023\, Amanda performed her poetry at The Festival of Love\, D31 Art Gallery\, Doncaster and Scunthorpe Pride on behalf of the Speak Out Scunny. She co hosted and performed for the spoken word stage at the No Limits Festival 2023 held at Normanby Hall\, Scunthorpe. \nMore recently\, Amanda has taken to the radio waves and has featured both pre-recorded and ‘’live on air’’ for Phoenix Community Radio\, Goole. \nYou can find Amanda performing at her local spoken word events at Speak Out Scunny\, The Confessional\, Away with Words. Her debut performance was at Yada Yada Noise in February 2022. She now proudly co-hosts ‘‘Rabbiting On’‘ spoken word group held at ‘The Rabbit Hole’ Independent bookshop\, Brigg with partner in poetry Amy Garratt. \n“Powerful poems\, some meant to be performed\, some to be read. Plain written\, uninhibited observations of the challenges of everyday life and the toll they take on our mental well being. A must read for the empath and the emotionally aware” Geoff Probert\, Performance Poet \n“Amanda takes the mic and whoosh!!! There she goes! A firecracker! A powerhouse of enthusiasm\, putting her all into her poetry\, with her burning commitment to deliver a stellar performance. She never fails to disappoint! Sarah Drury\,” Performance Poet \n‘Heart on her sleeve’ is her debut publication. \nFacebook page \nOPEN MIC \nWe supply the mic – you supply the poetry \nPut your name down for a 5 minute slot (first come\, first served) or just come along and listen. \nOpen mic name listing from 6.30pm \nEvent begins with guest poet at 7.00pm \nEveryone welcome. SUMMARY:TNL: Songwriters' Night
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday Night Live: SONGWRITERS’ NIGHT  \nDoors 7.30pm Music 7.45pm \nThis evening TNL is showcasing four singer songwriters. \n \nEVA KISS: With powerful yet soft vocals accompanied by gritty guitars\, punching basslines and tear-jerking lyrics\, Eva Kiss transforms the stage with energetic vulnerability. The band recalls notes of 90s grunge\, all the way from Nirvana to Alanis Morrisette. Raised in a strict religion\, Eva offers a unique narrative as she dives into her experience            being queer and an outcast from her faith. A blend of teenage angst and painful maturity paired with melodies you will go home humming. With her debut EP “Dreamland” featuring raw emotion and singer/songwriter excellence\, Eva’s live sound and future releases will transform the songs written in her bedroom to heavy soundscapes with a thrashing audience. \n  \n\n\n\nKATIE ALICE: is a 21-year-old singer-songwriter from Brighton\, now based in Leeds. She took up the classical flute and voice at a young age\, but was soon drawn to the sounds of Britain’s burgeoning Nu-folk scene of the 2010s\, citing influences such as Laura Marling and Billie Marten. Her classical past has shaped her melodies\, which she now blends with honest narratives\, intricate layers\, ambi\nent textures  and delicate guitar playing. Incorporating a loop machine into her live performances\, she aims to showcase her production style on stage. Songwriting is an important form of expression for Katie\, and she aims to offer a window into her world through her music.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTINESHA KINLEY  – in short\, Tinesha Kinley makes girly pop bangers. She combines the perfect mix of moody alt rock and twinkly indie pop. Her distorted guitar lays the foundation for her confessional lyrics to rest upon. Inspired by artists like Caroline Polachek\, Fleetwood Mac and Lorde\, her gut-wrenching yet playful lyrics take centre stage.\n\n  \n  \n \nCHLOE NATTRASS: Through the careful craft of captivating melodies and incredibly candid lyricism\, Chloe tells her side of every story. Hailing from the North East of England\, the 25 year old singer/songwriter details the complexities of love and longing\, hatred and healing – not only toward others\, but herse \nlf too\, with the presence of ethereal synths and grooving electric guitars places 80s pop influence at the centrefold of her soundscape. \n  \nAdvance tickets £7/£6 concessions \nOTD on the night from 5pm £10/£9 concessions

SUMMARY:Screening of 6 Inches of Soil
DESCRIPTION:FoodWise Leeds and Feed Leeds are hosting a screening of the eagerly anticipated documentary film Six Inches of Soil – a story of courage\, vision and hope. The inspiring story of British farmers standing up against the industrial food system and transforming the way they produce food – to heal the soil\, benefit our health and provide for local communities. \nThe screening will take place at HEART on Friday 10 May 6-9m. Doors open at 6pm\, film starts at 6:30pm with panel discussion to follow. \nSix Inches of Soil follows three new farmers on the first year of their regenerative journey – Anna Jackson\, a Lincolnshire 11th generation arable and sheep farmer; Adrienne Gordon\, a Cambridgeshire small-scale vegetable farmer; and Ben Thomas\, who rears pasture-fed beef cattle in Cornwall. As the trio strive to adopt regenerative practices and create viable businesses\, they meet seasoned mentors who help them on their journey. They’re joined by other experts providing wisdom and solutions from a growing movement of people who are dedicated to changing the trajectory for food\, farming and the planet. \nSonja Woodcock\, FoodWise Leeds says: \n“We are really excited to showing this film and engaging in conversation about how food is grown and produced in Britain. It is so important that we shift towards more regenerative\, agroecological practices to ensure a more resilient food system. We look forward to welcoming you to watch this important film and engage in conversation about how we can do food and farming better here in Leeds and the surrounding area.” \nThere is no charge to attend the screening but we are asking people to make a donation on the door. Suggested donation is £9 per ticket. All profits will be split between the film makers and the charity Zest. \nTickets: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/film-screening-six-inches-of-soil-tickets-872622737097?aff=oddtdtcreator
