Expect an evening of sublime\, engaging and entertaining music from these experienced performers \nFeatured artists are Towse from California USA\, Harry Orme and Nick Cody & The Heartache from Yorkshire. \nAll artists are seasoned songwriters playing original material as well as collaborating on the night in the Music for Head and Heart tradition. \nNick Cody is a Leeds based artist known for fronting several musical ensembles who have played both in the UK and at overseas festivals. His current ensemble Nick Cody & The Heartache will showcase material from the latest album “All is fine ‘til the world goes pop” which features Towse. Expect music to engage the brain and make you tap your feet. \nHarry Orme\, is a performer\, composer and educator based in Leeds. \nAs a singer-songwriter\, he has toured across the UK and Europe and have opened for many great favourite artists (including Big Thief\, Scott Matthews\, Tiny Ruins\, Sara Watkins\, Ciaran Lavery and Emily Portman). \nTowse from USA Towse is a musical project from Singer-songwriter Grace Fellows. DESCRIPTION:Jazz at Heart and Sam Newbould Quintet UK Tour September 2023 \nDoors 7pm Music from 7.15pm \n“A musical mosaic of futurist ideas and indie jazz harmonies” (Windout Magazine) \nThe Sam Newbould Quintet is an award winning five piece international line-up hailing from the UK\, Spain\, Israel and the Netherlands. The lineup includes Sam Newbould (alto saxophone)\, Bernard van Rossum (tenor saxophone)\, Xavi Torres (piano)\, Jort Terwijn (bass) and Guy Salamon (drums). \nBased in Amsterdam\, the quintet won the prestigious Keep an Eye Records in 2019 and were selected artists at the InJazz Showcase Festival 2021. \nAn “archetypal jazz outsider” (Jazzwise) their sound mixes the melodic lyricism of jazz and folk with progressive rock energy and explosive improvisations. \nTheir last album\, Bogus Notus (ZenneZ Records 2021)\, was inspired by the wildness of the northern English landscape\, and received international praise as “compulsive listening” (All About Jazz). \nThe group have been invited to perform at Europe’s top stages and festivals including the Vortex\, BIMHUIS and Amsterdam Jazz Festival. Her latest\, Cloud Cuckoo Café\, is published by Yaffle Press\, and\ncontains poems that will make people wake up and smell the coffee! \nLinda is currently working on a poetry book focused on Headingley to be launched later this year. DESCRIPTION:SOUNDBITES – Monthly Poetry Open Mic Event \nLive in the Assembly Bar + Kitchen! \nReadings by a different local published poet each month and this month we’re delighted to welcome JAMIE H SCRUTTON \nJamie is a Yorkshire based artist\, specialising in performance poetry and animation. He has showcased his work at various events around the UK\, including ‘Exploding Cinema’ and ‘Kino Open Mic Film Night’\, both based in London. \nHe has headlined events such as ‘Stanza Extravaganza’ and ‘Big Poetry’\, both based in Torquay. He won the Audience Choice Award for his animation ‘The Day My Gran Rode a Rollercoaster’ at the Winter Gardens Film Festival in Blackpool\, 2017. He released his debut book titled ‘The devil Makes Work for Creative Hands’\, which touches upon his processes as an artist and his personal debilitating episodes through mental health. The book is available through Waterstones. DESCRIPTION:Tuesday Night Live. \nPresented by Irish Arts Foundation \nTraditional Irish Music Evening. \nTHE WEAVING \nDoors 7pm Music from 7.15pm \nMéabh Begley on button accordion\, Owen Spafford on fiddle and Cáit Ní Riain on piano came together as part of the Arts Council England supported\, ‘Exploring the Musical Traditions of County Cork & County Kerry’ project. \nThe trio bring together the rich musical traditions of Corca Dhuibhne\, Co. Tipperary and Yorkshire\, their home regions\, and find their musical expression and styling from the Gaeltacht of West Kerry. Drawn together by a love of traditional music\, the three shared the tunes they had learnt from family and friends in kitchens and venues across Ireland and England. \nThey discovered their own blend of fierce dance music and raw harmonies inspired by a deep understanding of their musical inheritance.
