SUMMARY:TNL: Kristina Stead
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday Night Live: KRISTINA STEAD \nDoors 7pm Music 7.15pm \nSonic Sunshine Storyteller Kristina Stead is a hopeless optimist in a hopeless world. A songwriter who refuses to settle for surface-level pop\, she blends introspective storytelling with intricate arrangements influenced by artists like Anais Mitchell\, MIKA and boundary pushers such as Kate Bush. Her music carries a bright\, joyful energy even when the themes are heavier. Every song is built with care\, curiosity and emotional honesty. \nHer work stands out because she tackles cultural pressure\, burnout\, identity\, insomnia\, family and the quiet truths people avoid\, all while wrapping them in catchy hooks and vivid imagery. She aims to bring artistry and critical thought back into pop music at a time when much of the industry leans on boring formulas. Her songs act as little epiphanies\, nudging listeners to look at the world differently. Her mission is to shine her light in the darkness of this world\, exposing the toxic habits that society normalises\, while also bringing back joy in to music. \nKristina Stead is not escapism. It is illumination. It is pop with purpose\, created for real people who want to think\, feel and wake up from numb Consumerism\, and step into a joyful sonic landscape of intentionality\, purpose and meaning. \nAdvance tickets £8/£7 concession available from HEART reception and online. \nOn the Night £10

DESCRIPTION:Films at HEART: DRIVING MUM \nDoors 7.00pm Film 7.15pm \nDir Hilmar Oddsson//1hr 52mins//Black and White//Certificate 12A//Subtitles//2022 \nThis beautifully filmed\, darkly comedic road movie is set in 1980 when the death of Jón’s mother forces him and his dog to set out on a journey across  Iceland to honour her final wishes. \nWatch Driving Mum trailer \nReview: \n The Guardian: This droll road movie uses the wild landscape to powerful effect\, and features the best Icelandic canine acting since Godland. \nCinema for All: Cinematographer Óttar Guðnason photographs stunning Icelandic vistas.  Just as epic as the landscape photography are the grizzled closeups of Pröstur Leó Gunnarsson’s Jón\, whose expressive face feels as if it’s been plucked straight from the silent era. DESCRIPTION:SOUNDBITES – Monthly Poetry Open Mic  \nLive in the Assembly Bar + Kitchen! \nReadings by a different local published poet each month. This month we’re delighted to welcome AIMEE DONNELL. \nAimee’s debut book ‘We Are All Creatures of Struggle’ is stated to be her publisher’s biggest poetry release to date. Originally from Northern Ireland but now living in York\, she has been writing since she was seven years old. \nAimee’s writing is deeply personal yet universal\, mainly focused and inspired by human experiences\, chronicling the difficulties of battling with mental health and chronic illness in delicate\, hopeful tones\, observing relationships and how they break down\, and riding the waves of female rage whilst using her words to fight for equality. Her poetry is a product of her wanting to speak up for those who may feel like they have lost their own voices with the aim to unite and celebrate what makes us vulnerable\, hopeful and human. \nShe has appeared multiple times on BBC Radio York\, the York Press\, placed third in Manchester’s ‘One Mic Stand Slam’ and second in York’s ‘Say Owt Slam’. Her debut poetry is available to buy both in and online at Waterstones\, Amazon\, FOYLES and WH Smith and she is currently writing and excited about the release of book two. \nOPEN MIC \nWe supply the mic – you supply the poetry \nPut your name down for a 5 minute slot (first come\, first served) or just come along and listen. \nOpen mic name listing from 6.30pm \nEvent begins with guest poet at 7.00pm \nEveryone welcome. Free (donation appreciated)

SUMMARY:Films at HEART FilmFeast: The Holdovers
DESCRIPTION:Films at HEART FilmFeast: THE HOLDOVERS celebrate the festivities with this great film and Vegan Cottage Pie with root veg mash topping\, green beans and gravy from our fabulous ABK cafe \nDoors 6pm   Food 6.30pm \nFilm 7.15pm \nDir Alexander Payne//2hrs 13mins//Certificate R//2023 \nWatch The Holdovers trailer \nThis comedy set in 1970 stars Paul Giamatti\, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Dominic Sessa – a curmudgeonly history teacher\, Professor Paul Hunham\, played by Giamatti\, at a New England boarding school remains on campus during Christmas break to supervise held over students\, and ends up forming an unlikely bond with a brainy but damaged troublemaker. \nReviews:  \nThe Guardian: Alexander Payne’s story of a cantankerous teacher holed up for Christmas with a wayward teen and the school cook is expertly told with gentle\, grownup comedy. \nEmpire Online: 4 out of 4 stars – Consistently hilarious\, undercut with melancholy and flecked with profundity\, it’s a major return to form for Payne after 2017’s shrinking-people drama Downsizing\, and nothing less than a brand-new Christmas classic.  \nTickets £12 (includes food and film) available from HEART reception and online
