SUMMARY:Breakfast Boogie
DESCRIPTION:Breakfast Boogie! \nWhat is it ? \nÁine will lead a relaxed\, playful and energising dance session to get you out of bed and into your body ! Through guided improvisation and lots of dancing to fun tunes\, the class will take you on a journey from morning stretches to group dance party. \nThere will be 3 sessions in September on Thursday mornings. Drop in to just one \, or book for all 3. It’s the first time I’m offering these sessions so it’s a bit of an experiment to see how it goes \, with the hope that there will be more of these sessions over autumn and winter . \nWho is it for ? \nAnyone . The sessions will mostly be about me offering some guidance and playful ideas for moving \, and you doing with that what you like. This will be a non-judgmental space where all bodies are welcome and celebrated. No experience necessary\, everyone can boogie. \nWho am I ? \nHello! I’m Áine \, I’m a dancer performer and improviser . I’m also in a girl band. When I’m not doing that \, I make a smashin’ flat white at the Heart cafe . I love fun silly playful dancing (in the kitchen \, in the club \, on the beach ) and sharing it with others . I celebrate the body’s capacity for pleasure and joy\, and think dance can help us create more kind and friendly relationships with our bodies . \nWhere ? \nThe session will take place at the Heart centre in Headingley\, in the bright and spacious main Hall. The venue is fully accessible\, and there is a cafe serving food and hot drinks. \nThe space will be open from 9.15am if you want to have some time to arrive\, get a drink\, get comfortable. \nSee you there! \nBook your spot here!

SUMMARY:TNL: (Double Bill) Maria Sandle and introducing Chloe Lawrence
DESCRIPTION:Singer songwriter and musician\, Maria Sandle\, is returning to HEART for Tuesday Night Live.\nMaria has had a number of successful performances. She brings much expression and a real depth of feeling to all her songs\, with narratives that are often thoughtful and sometimes provocative.\n\nIntroducing – Chloe Lawrence\, born and bred in Southern Spain to Essex parents\, is a Manchester based singer/songwriter and street musician.Chloe showcases sprinklings of classical folk music and intricate finger-picking\, paired with her own fierce independent modernity. Performing on a Spanish nylon string guitar\, Chloe combines tastefully applied vocal grit and unexpected pop riffing\, with moments of spoken word; all of which weave poetically\, if somewhat cuttingly\, to provoke emotional digging around relatable themes. This unique blend serves to differentiate her style from the genre singer-songwriters tend to be associated with. \nChloe began playing on the street regularly in Cardiff\, where you could hit Queen Street and be charmed by the vulnerable optimism of her honest story-telling matched by the dynamic intricacies of her voice. She has since played on streets all over the UK and beyond; feeling busking to be the rawest form of performance and the best way of restoring faith in humanity! \nChloe released her independently produced EP ‘Cafe’ in May 2020\, which is available on all online platforms and plans to release new music in the autumn of this year.   \n\n\nWell worth a night out to enjoy an entertaining and relaxing evening!\n\nDoors 7pm\nMusic from 7.15pm – 9.15pm approx.\n\nTickets £7/£6 concessions available from HEART reception and online

SUMMARY:Icarus Theatre Collective - The Lesson
DESCRIPTION:Starring Hazel Caulfield\, Jerome Ngonadi\, & Julie Stark\nWritten By Eugène Ionesco\, translation by Donald Watson\n\n\n“50s Absurdism meets 90s in-yer-face apocalypticism.” \nA mild-mannered professor takes on a new pupil\, and swiftly descends into tyranny\, becoming bent on her destruction. \n‍A blistering revival of Icarus’ award-winning dark comedy with a new Creative Captioning process supported by Arts Council England\, for both hearing and deaf/HoH audiences. \nA comically surreal expose about power\, knowledge and those who hoard both. \n\nWatch the trailer here. \nDoors – 7pm \nPerformance starts – 7:30pm \nGeneral Admission – £12 \nConcession/Unwaged – £10 \nTickets can be purchased at HEART reception or via the button below: \n\n\n \nWhat is Creative Captioning?\nNormal captioning uses a surtitle box over the stage that serves no dramatic purpose\, distracts from the story\, and is heavily criticised by the Deaf community as being like “reading a play while watching a play.” \nOur new captioning technology (and indeed the whole design working inconcert) functions almost as an additional character on stage.  The cast interact.  It interacts with them. \nWe don’t just display “Music plays” to describe the score\, but instead musical notes travel along the walls\, moving in ways that allow Deaf/HoH audiences to understand the emotion behind the music and at the same time gives the hearing audience an extra sensory perception of the story. \nWe are also able to enhance words visually the way the cast say them. We don’t need to write a lot of text to describe a town; we can just draw the town onthe chalkboard. \nHearing audiences have responded enthusiastically that our Creative Captioning enhances rather than distracts and Deaf audiences have unanimously said that this type of technology would bring them to the theatre more. \nLearn more here:\nhttps://youtu.be/SKiX-oCiTJE \n‍
