SUMMARY:TNL: Flo/ra
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday Night Live: FLO/RA \nFlo/ra is a contemporary jazz quintet led by saxophonist and composer Flo Taylor (Ferg’s Imaginary Big Band\, Goddess Collective). Their music explores themes of neurodivergence\, identity and grief through emotionally honest\, intricately arranged compositions. Flo/ra crafts a sound that is expansive yet deeply personal and vulnerable\, that invites the audience to be part of their world\, while feeling safe to come just as they are. \nThe music draws on influences from classical\, spiritual jazz\, folk\, drum and bass and chant music to avoid comfortable classification\, and to express Flo’s inability to fit comfortably into boxes themselves. The saxophone-led quintet features electric guitar and double bass\, enabling a wide variation of tone from heavy and distorted to gentle and fragile. \nFlo/ra sold out their debut performance at Hyde Park Book Club in January and have since built strong momentum on the Leeds scene. Flo/ra played a recent highlight performance at Lancaster Jazz Festival\, where their highly anticipated debut album was recorded. \nThis will be the final home date of their album release tour promoting their debut album. \nFlo is joined for this gig by a great lineup of Leeds Jazz scene regulars:\n– Callum Greenaway on piano\n– Thomas McEwen on guitar\n– Woody Hayden on upright bass\n– Louis Berthoud on drums\nAdvance tickets £8/£7 available from HEART reception and online \nOn the Night £10
