Tuesday Night Live: LIAM MASON TRIO + JAMES ABSALOM’S FUNICULAR QUARTET
Doors 7pm Music 7.15pm
LIAM MASON TRIO featuring music from influences of contemporary jazz by the likes of Immanuel Wilkins, Gard Nilsson and Norman Wilmore, Liam leads a band looking for a sound rooted in chordless ensembles, folk melodies and modern sounds. With their own twist on new age tunes and originals, they preform sets of heavily improvised music, combining elements of free, spiritual and modern jazz.
The band features Liam Mason (Piano/Band Leader), Chris Williams (Double Bass) and Miles Pillinger (Drums). All recent graduates from Leeds Conservatoire, these musicians have been playing, studying and growing together over the past 4 years in various ensembles. This has led them to build a solid foundation of friendship, trust and freedom which comes across in their improvised music.
Whilst great players/leaders in their own right, together the three friends push each other to find new avenues and inspiration in this improvised music.
JAMES ABSALOM’S FUNICULAR QUARTET is a double saxophone quartet compounding a medley of jazz styles and
original compositions in a contemporary and exciting recipe, from New Orleans to modern Norwegian jazz.

The group draws influence from the music of John Coltrane, Thelonious Monk, and Ornette Coleman. The ensemble is fronted by powerful tenor saxophone duo James Absalom and Harvey Parkin-Christie, with bassist Chris Williams and drummer Dom Neeson.
