SOUNDBITES – Monthly Poetry Open Mic

Live in the Assembly Bar + Kitchen!

Readings by a different local published poet each month. This month we’re delighted to welcome AIMEE DONNELL.

Aimee’s debut book ‘We Are All Creatures of Struggle’ is stated to be her publisher’s biggest poetry release to date. Originally from Northern Ireland but now living in York, she has been writing since she was seven years old.

Aimee’s writing is deeply personal yet universal, mainly focused and inspired by human experiences, chronicling the difficulties of battling with mental health and chronic illness in delicate, hopeful tones, observing relationships and how they break down, and riding the waves of female rage whilst using her words to fight for equality. Her poetry is a product of her wanting to speak up for those who may feel like they have lost their own voices with the aim to unite and celebrate what makes us vulnerable, hopeful and human.

She has appeared multiple times on BBC Radio York, the York Press, placed third in Manchester’s ‘One Mic Stand Slam’ and second in York’s ‘Say Owt Slam’. Her debut poetry is available to buy both in and online at Waterstones, Amazon, FOYLES and WH Smith and she is currently writing and excited about the release of book two.
