Lumumba, Death of a Prophet (18, 1990, 69mins)

Lumumba, Death of a Prophet presents a lyrical account of the struggle for Congolese independence, the emergence of Patrice Lumumba as the first prime minister of the newly independent country, and his assassination. One of Raoul Peck’s earliest works, the film weaves together a combination of memoir, interviews, and archival record to produce a haunting reflection on cultural memory, trauma, historical representation, and the legacies of colonialism and slavery.

Content guidance: death, racism, colonialism, slavery and depictions of physical violence.
