For young people aged 11–16

This August, HEART is hosting a week of creative workshops for young people aged 11–16, with five unique sessions led by local artists, musicians, and creatives. Each session runs from 10am–2pm, with a break in the middle.
Tickets are £7 per session or £5 unwaged. Book all 5 and save 20% — simply add each session to your basket before checking out to receive your discount automatically (press “continue shopping” instead of checkout, then do the same with the other 5 classes).
All facilitators are DBS checked and sessions are supervised by qualified adults.

Mon 10th Aug — DJing with Meanhood

Ever wanted to know what it feels like to be behind the decks? In this hands-on workshop, Elliott from Headingley’s own Meanhood record shop and DJ studio will introduce you to the world of DJing. They’ll be bringing their own decks and giving you the chance to have a go yourself — no experience needed, just bring your enthusiasm. A perfect taster for anyone who’s ever wondered what it takes to get the crowd moving.

Tue 11th Aug — Illustration with Rosie

Join Rosie, fine art graduate from the University of Leeds and host of HEART’s monthly art club, for an introduction to still life drawing and painting. Whether you’ve never picked up a pencil before or just want to develop your skills, Rosie will guide you through the process with expert tuition in a relaxed and welcoming environment. You might surprise yourself with what you can create.

Wed 12th Aug — Zine Making with Blue

What’s your Leeds? In this session, illustration master’s student Blue will take you through the process of designing your own zine from start to finish — using your favourite places in Leeds and the stories behind them as your inspiration. Drawing on examples from the zine library at Leeds Arts University, Blue will guide you through layout, design, and storytelling, and you’ll leave with your very own zine to keep.

Thu 13th Aug — Movement with Maddie

Leeds has a rich and fascinating history — and in this session, dancer and performer Maddie will help you explore it through movement. Starting with gentle warm-up activities, you’ll work in pairs and build towards creating a movement story together as a group. No dance experience needed — just an open mind and a willingness to move.

Fri 14th Aug — Rewilding with Lyn

Join Lyn for a hands-on outdoor session exploring the concept of rewilding and what it means for our cities, communities, and green spaces.
