Tuesday Night Live: KINAARA

KINAARA are a trio emerging from the cross genre scene in Leeds. Their sound begins with songs of the Punjab and folk from the British Isles infused with Indian classical music motifs and melodies filtered through a jazzy indie folk mixer. A blending of cultures and musical styles.
Begun in 2018 by singer Satnam Galsian to find anew the Punjabi songs of her youth. The sounds of Surinder Kaur and Noor Jehan an inspirational jumping off point. John Hogg, with a background in Indian classical, blues, rock and folk, joined on electric guitar and jazz drummer Simon Henry completed the collaboration.
Their first EP ‘Across the River’ was released in 2021.
Following this KINAARA were nominated for ‘Best Indie Act’ by Radio Wigwam.
A well received second EP, ‘Colours In Black’, was released in July 2022.
KINAARA songs have featured on BBC Radio Leeds, BBC Radio Manchester, Global Underground, Papaoul on Worldwide FM, Alabaster Deplume on Worldwide FM, New Music Saturday, Global Roots, John Cavanagh’s Soundwave and the legendary DJ Ritu’s A World In London.
The trio are working on their first full album: a collection of original songs and interpretations of Punjabi folk, Sufi and British folk songs.
