Struggling single mother, Anesu, believes she missed her ‘chance’ at life until her Gogo and her son Tapiwa enter her into auditions for a reality TV cooking show. Inspired by the popular television show Battle of the Chefs Harare, the first feature film from Zimbabwe’s Mufambanidzo Films is now available to watch on the big screen in Leeds.
This film became the first to be released in Zimbabwe post-Mugabe era which lasted for nearly 40 years. It received international media attention since its release on the Netflix platform in June 2020 and it is only the second Zimbabwean film to receive international attention after Neria. The film is credited with shattering stereotypes of the Zimbabwean film industry which had been crippled by economic crisis and hyperinflation in the country.
